Our Spring 2011 Members’ Assembly Meeting is coming up on April 2nd from 2–4pm, and your Board of Directors would like to share a few things before we meet to have our meeting and then celebrate our 5th birthday!
First off, I’d like to share our draft agenda for the meeting:
- Call Meeting to Order & Introductions (5 minutes, Mark Wochner)
- State of the Co-op Address (10 minutes, Mark Wochner)
- Discussion of FY 2010 Annual Report (15 minutes, Steven Yarak)
- FAQ & Operations Update (10 minutes, Steven Yarak)
- Open Time for Member-Owners to Comment (20 minutes)
- Ends Revision Vote (5 minutes, Mark Wochner)
- Educational Session on Co-operative Principles (20 minutes, Board of Directors)
- Announcements & Concluding Remarks (10 minutes, everyone)
You’ll notice that there’s an item where we’ll be voting on a change to our Ends policies. As a reminder, Ends policies are the results that we as Member-Owners want from the Co-op. This is a minor change, and it is one that was suggested by a Member-Owner at our Fall 2010 Members’ Assembly Meeting. We’re suggesting a change to A.2.1, which within the context of our current Ends reads:
A.2 Community Involvement
A.2 Black Star Co-op will be a model for, and encourage involvement with, the local community. Specifically:
A.2.1 Be an advocate for and educate the community about the co-operative model, beer, and brewing.
We suggest changing A.2.1 to the following:
A.2.1 Be an advocate for and educate the community about the co-operative model, beer, food, and brewing.
We certainly want to ensure that our co-op works to educate the community on food as well as beer, brewing, and the co-operative model, so we believe that it should explicitly included in our Ends policies. Come with questions and be ready to vote on the first revision to our new Ends policies at the meeting. See you there!
