The Texas Business Organizations Code requires that the Board of Directors “shall appoint a committee composed of members who are not principal bookkeepers, accountants, or employees of the cooperative association to review the cooperative association” (TBOC, Chapter 251.352(b)). The task of the committee is to “report on the quality of the annual report…and the bookkeeping system of the cooperative association at the annual meeting” (TBOC, Chapter 251.352(c)).

We invite Member-Owners to participate in this year’s committee, which will be presenting our report at the fall Members’ Assembly. The tasks include:

  • Brief preliminary reading, followed by a meeting to plan the review process
  • Performing review tasks as determined by the committee and assigned to committee members
  • Meeting to discuss review findings
  • Delivery of written and oral report at the fall Members’ Assembly

The time commitment is approximately 6-8 hours total, for work conducted over approximately 10 weeks. This is a great opportunity for interested Member-Owners to serve a very valuable function and to participate in your Co-op in an interesting way!

Please contact the Board of Directors if you are interested in joining the committee at board@blackstar.coop, or if you have specific questions, you can contact Rose Marie Klee at rosemarie.klee@blackstar.coop.
