The Workers’ Assembly was greeted this morning by a crane lifting our HVAC equipment, kitchen hood exhaust fan, and make up air unit up to the roof. The pace of construction progress has picked up and is going quickly!

So as you may have noticed, there has been some delay in posting a construction update, which is mainly due to the completion time of the previously reported trenching, rough plumbing/electrical installation, and inspections. I figured I would refrain from sharing updates such as “we got those cast-iron lines in today”, or, “Hoooeey, we were able to tie in that storm drain line from the 12″ pipe to a 6″ over the grease trap!”-exciting for me, but not necessarily “blog-worthy.” Fortunately, we are happy to report we’ve hit a new milestone, walls are going up! We are for the first time able to physically actualize the space we will all be sharing in just a few short months!

Here’s the basic “run down” of the progress that has been completed:

* Rough plumbing completed; passed inspection
* Rough electrical for overhead & underground completed; passed inspection
* Back-fill of trenches completed with the IMPACTORNATOR (Name courtesy of Karinne…think, fat pogo-stick with a large clown shoe on the end of it)
* Some delay in exterior excavation for grease trap due to rain
* Excavation for grease trap completed; grease trap set; plumbing lines tied in; inspection passed
* Copper water lines for brewery placed/welded in; gas lines laid out for brewery
* Moisture barrier and rebar placement throughout trenched areas
* Floor drains installed
* Concrete pour-back completed
* Blocked out areas in cold room and brewery for trenches to be set
* Tracks & studs placed for demising wall, office, ladies restroom and kitchen area

The coming weeks we can expect to see framing for the brewery cold room/ mezzanine, drywall up, in-wall electrical placed, trenches for the brewery set, and initial work on the furr down over the bar area.

If you are ever in the area, please don’t hesitate to “drop-in,” put on a hard-hat and take a quick tour of the space. Our internal office is across from the brewpub, within the development, in suite #3103.

Our offering of Member-Investor Shares is well under way. If you haven’t yet made an investment, now is the time!

A printed prospectus was mailed to all member-owners, and we’re following up with phone calls and emails. However, we always love meeting our member-owners in person and are holding weekly Investment Q&A Forums to talk about the offering, answer questions, and sign contracts (bring your checkbook!).

The Investment Q&A Forums take place each Thursday from 5-7 PM. Please join us for the next forum on June 17th at our development office, which is across the parking lot from the brewpub location at Midtown Commons. For more information, email invest@blackstar.coop or give us a call at (512) 452-BEER.

The weather is heating up and we’re hot and heavy into construction. Let’s get together and enjoy a cold one. Join us on Saturday, June 12 from 7-10 PM for an evening of good beer and good music shared with good people in a co-operative environment.

This a great time for member-owners to connect with one another and for future member-owners to join the Co-op. As an added incentive, we’ve been running a membership drive based on referrals from current member-owners. If you refer three (3) new people to join the Co-op, you’ll receive a *free* Black Star Co-op t-shirt or hat! Many of you are almost there, so bring a non-member friend and sign them up! Oh, and make sure they list your name on the referral line of the membership application.

If all your friends are already members, you’re not out of luck. As usual, we’ll have a variety of Black Star Co-op swag available for sale. Bring cash and show off your Black Star threads wherever you go.

For those of you that still have not joined the Co-op: you only have a couple months left to become Charter Members! Remember, if you can’t make it to the Beer Social, you can become a member-owner at anytime on our website.

See you there and bring your canine friends!

Back in April we first invited the beer-loving women of our Co-op to a special Ladies Edition of Bar Hours with the Board. It was so successful we’ve decided to make Ladies Bar Hours a regular part of our calendar! Yes, leave your male friends behind so the women can chat amongst themselves. Sorry, guys, you’ll have to make due with the June 12th Bar Hours @ Red’s Porch.

On Wednesday June 30th Bar Hours with the Board will be in downtown Austin at the Dog & Duck. The Dog & Duck is located at 406 W 17th St and we’ll be there from 7-9 PM.

As you know, these events are not formal meetings, but they are a great opportunity for member-owners (and prospective new members-owners!) to come share a pint with some of our Directors and enhance the membership linkage of our Co-op.
